Okay, confession time:
I’m not a gamer.
At least not according to the “official” gamer community handbook. I don’t own a gaming PC, I don’t stream on Twitch, and I’ve never once moderated a Discord channel.
(Okay fine… I do technically have a Twitch account. But it’s collecting more dust than a skincare product I used once and emotionally abandoned.)
What I do have is a Nintendo Switch, a PlayStation, and an uncanny ability to binge single-player games like there’s an introvert Olympics and I’m training for gold.
And then there’s the eternal dilemma:
What do I play next?
I’m a huge fan of the Horizon games. I’ve played all of them at least three times—yes, even the DLCs (not the VR one though, I have limits).
I still remember the first time I stepped into Horizon Zero Dawn—the unknown and world to be discovered…
I’ll never get that feeling back. Tragic.
One thing I do love is noticing how much I’ve improved since I started gaming.
I used to be awful. Like—accidentally-throwing-grenades-at-my-own-feet awful.
I’m still pretty bad at anything that requires shooting, driving, or… general hand-eye coordination. But I’m better! Progress!
Oh, and I have a Steam account too. I played way too much Dota 2 and Dota Underlords back in the day.
But here’s the kicker:
My biggest fear in gaming is… playing with strangers online.
As an introvert, that’s basically a horror game.
And yet—I know that building a community, finding the right people, and playing with others could actually be fun.
I just haven’t gotten there yet.
Also… I don’t really have any gamer friends. I miss having a gaming buddy.
(Okay wow… that got sad real fast. My bad.)
This was supposed to be a joyful post about my love for gaming and the drama of trying to pick the next best game.
But here we are—oversharing on the internet. Again.
Thanks for coming to my loading screen of thoughts. 🎮
What games are you playing, and which would you recommend? And how would you recommend that someone gather the courage to play online with other people?
